Hello IP friends!
We hope you are all doing well. As you study for exams we invite you to listen to our Podcast titled “Intellectually Yours” which we created as our Paper/Post/Presentation.
“Intellectually Yours” is an exploration of the intersections of law and culture. With real-life examples and a touch of humour, we hope to offer a fresh perspective on the evolving nature of creativity and legal protection for alternative forms of expression. In the podcast, we explore the complexities of intellectual property in the realms of drag queens, cannabis stores, and graffiti. In doing so we go on a journey through the legal intellectual property landscapes that define these key facets of our modern cultural tapestry.
In segment 1, titled “Glamour and Copyright: Protecting the Artistry of Drag Queens”, we step into the dazzling world of drag queens and discuss the challenges these performers face in safeguarding their artistic expressions. From the glitzy costumes to the performances that redefine boundaries, we dissect the nuances of the legal landscape that surrounds the glamorous universe of drag.
In segment 2, titled “Herbs for Us All: High Stakes for Intellectual Property in the Cannabis Industry”, we shift gears and consider trademarking in the recently legalized cannabis industry. Through a case study, we discuss how trademark law conflicts with creative expression and goodwill within the cannabis space.
In segment 3, titled “Spray Cans and Copyright: Graffiti as Art”, we embrace the vibrant colours and underground world of graffiti to explore the challenges faced by street artists to protect their art. From the streets to the courtroom, we specifically consider the complex relationships between graffiti, property rights, and copyright law.
Our thoughts are Intellectually Yours to consider. So pull up a chair, get cozy, and listen up.
Tristan, Selina, and Tinashe
