I saw this article recently and found it very interesting. Apple recently won a decision against AliveCor in a long-running dispute regarding wearable heart monitoring technology. It seems AliveCor attempted to sue Apple for violating their patent regarding an ECG add-on they had developed for the Apple Watch – the ECG functionality was soon added natively to new installments of the watch by Apple. The article states that the court determined AliveCor couldn’t patent their product as it was “obvious” concerning prior technological development.
It seems however that the dispute is not over, as AliveCor has stated they have plans to appeal. Apple has recently filed a patent suit against AliveCor as well. What a mess!
