NFTs and IP in Dance Moves?

Hello everyone,

I found this article describing a performance on the Ellen DeGeneres show that featured NFT animated dancers: https://decrypt.co/95735/nft-band-debuts-singer-kiesza-ellen-degeneres-show.

The dance moves executed by the dancers (who are Chewbacca-like rainbow-coloured furry humanoids) are apparently stored on the blockchain.  What’s interesting in the context of this course is how the artist leading the performance suggests that NFTs could be used to give dancers something like intellectual property in their dance moves:

“I’ve chatted with dancers who are sick of their routines being stolen and used by other performers, who can now claim digital ownership over a series of moves or routines by means of NFTs,” Didlo told Decrypt. “Imagine owning the original Moonwalk, or the famous Thriller routine.”

To say the least, I have some doubts about this.  However, it is at least interesting to consider the idea of NFTs being used as a backbone for IP, rather than say, a ledger at the office of the Registrar of Trademarks.  Even if it’s not a very good idea.
