After binge-watching Westworld and concurrently taking Intellectual Property and Succession, I’ve been fascinated by the intersection of death and intellectual property. Through the research of my presentation, I’ve found that there are many weird and interesting ways that these two concepts interact that give rise to important legal concerns.
My presentation (accessible here) provides some examples of how technology has been used to “bring back” deceased actors, singers, and entertainers and examines the legal considerations generated by these evolving technologies, specifically relating to the ownership, scope, and enforcement of copyright in Canada.
